How to find parking or storage: what, where, when and for how long.

The four questions every search asks

Every search on Peelpel asks four questions: what you are looking for, where, when and for how long. The first answer is the choice between parking and storage, and it changes everything else.

Parking and storage are two separate worlds. Parking has an hourly, daily or monthly rate, vehicle types and a charging point. Storage has a monthly rate only, a space type and a list of what fits inside. Switching between them clears the filters, because a filter from one world says nothing in the other.

Where is a city, a neighbourhood or an address. A rental starts the moment you pay, so there is no start date to choose. For how long is a number of months for storage, or the choice of rate for parking.

You can search without answering every question. The more of them you answer, the more the results narrow to spaces that are genuinely free for you.

The four questions every search asks

Searching by place

In the location field you can type a city, a neighbourhood or an address. The search compares what you typed against the city, the area and the listing title, and it does not distinguish upper case from lower case. Each word is checked separately, so the order of the words does not matter.

The street, the house number and the location inside the building are never searched. They are the private address of the space, and searching on them would reveal it.

Choosing a place from the suggestions gives the search a centre point, and the results narrow to a radius around it. Only then does the distance filter appear, and only then can you sort by nearest.

The map pin is not the address. It is snapped to a grid of about 300 metres, and the distance shown is measured from it. The full address is released after you have booked.

What dates change in the results

Choosing dates narrows the results to spaces that are genuinely free for the range you asked for. A space that appeared in a search without dates may disappear the moment you add them, and that is deliberate.

Four things take a space out of the results: an existing booking that overlaps the range; the notice the host requires in advance; their limit on how far ahead they accept bookings; and a tenant on a renewing rental, who also holds the months after their current term.

A booking occupies the space from the moment it closes until the end of the period. During that time the space is not shown to others on those dates.

The search asks the same questions the booking screen asks. A space that passed the filter with your dates is a space you can book straight away.

How many months of storage

Storage is measured in whole months. You choose a number of months, the rental starts the moment the payment goes through, and the end date is calculated from the two. You cannot ask for a month and a half.

The host sets a minimum number of months, and sometimes a maximum too. The minimum is at least one month and can be higher. When your search carries a number of months, spaces whose minimum is above it do not appear, which is why changing the number of months changes the list of results.

Some storage spaces can be rented as a renewing rental: with no end date, renewing month by month until one side stops it. It exists for storage only, and only with hosts who allowed it, so a search asking for a renewing rental shows fewer spaces.

On a renewing rental too, the opening term must meet the host's minimum months. Their maximum does not apply to it, because it has no term agreed in advance. Stopping the renewal is not a cancellation: the current month runs to its end.

Hour, day or month for parking

For parking, the choice between hour, day and month is a choice of rate. It decides which price your budget is measured against, and it leaves in the results only spaces that have a price in that unit.

A space its host priced by the month only does not appear in an hourly search, even when it is free. It is not an expensive space; it is a space that is not let by the hour.

You can mark availability for today or tomorrow, or pick a date. The check is made over the whole day, so as not to hide a space that is free for part of it.

The host can set a minimum and a maximum parking length. When the search carries a time window, spaces whose limits do not fit that window drop out of the results. The parking length itself is chosen on the booking screen, not in the search.

Saving a search and sharing it

On the website you can save a search and give it a name. A saved search is exactly the address of the page you are looking at, so opening it brings back the same filters.

Saving requires an account. If you are not signed in, you are offered a sign-in, and the search is still on screen when you come back, so saving is one press.

You can save up to 50 searches, and two saved searches cannot carry the same name. Deleting a saved search makes room for a new one.

Even without saving, every search is a link. Copying the address from the browser and sending it opens the same search for whoever receives it.

Why a particular space is missing

Only published spaces appear in the results. Every listing is reviewed before it goes up, and a listing that was paused or removed leaves the results.

A removed listing is not deleted. It goes to the archive, and if its owner brings it back it returns as a draft and is reviewed again before it is published.

If you added dates, a space can be missing because it is taken, because the host's notice period has not passed yet, because you asked for a date too far ahead, or because it is not set up to take bookings at all.

If you added a budget, it is measured against one price unit. Choosing a unit drops from the results spaces whose hosts did not price them in that unit.
